Stop Collaborate and Draw Together?

Petschnigg and Allen remain relatively tight-lipped about their plans for Paper this year, but one thing users can count on are features encouraging collaboration among users. The firm raised a small undisclosed amount of seed funding from Shana Fisher’s Highline Venture Partners in New York and Ron Conway’s SV Angel firm in San Francisco and is already profitable.

“Now the question is really, how do you pool your ideas together?” explains Allen. “Where do they do it, and what does it mean to work with someone else? If you have an idea, how do you share it with someone and get feedback on it? That’s really where we’re pouring a lot of our energies into right now.”

Does this mean that with a future update to Paper by 53 I might be able to collaborate and co-create with all you amazing Paper artists? Sign me up please.

Discovered the wonderful Reflector app for OS X today. Let’s you mirror your iPad or iPhone’s display to a Mac/PC using Airplay. The best part? You can capture it and save as a .mov video. No more faux “speed painting” videos for me, I can record the real deal now!

Haven’t figured out how to capture my iPad 3 at full retina resolution like I could with the “screenshot slideshow” method. But I think the quality and frame rate are acceptable to continue experimenting…

She loves to draw, she loves to eat out (I suspect her being french), and mixes both in her tumblr. drawingtableforone just published a note about the way she ~~works~~ draws. As the sketches she usually does, it’s clever, clear, and instructive.

A couple of folks have asked me how I start my drawings. First I look at the space, drop a few key lines on the “page” to get the perspective and proportions right (or as right as I can get them) and then let the rest of the drawing flow. I must confess that I use the eraser and the “rewind” feature quite a bit but my goal is not to draw the perfect drawing. I usually start with the ink pen and then use the fountain pen for a heavier line weight/contrast. Here’s an image of my Cafe Rabelais drawing before I added color.

Eight minutes to draw a “tribute to Neil Armstrong”

Well, it’s not perfect, but far more telling than the previous four-steps how-to.

I made the previously released tribute to Neil Armstrong with the idea of filming the whole process. What involved trying to draw fast, at once, and editing an even quicker video. So I sat up a webcam above the ipad (yes, it could be better…), made some tea (too much, as usual), and started drawing at 2 a.m.

The camera wasn’t filming but shooting a picture every 1.5 second, using autowebcam.

The sketch was finished around 4 a.m. what generated over 5100 pictures (640x480), edited in windows MovieMaker with real Appolo 11 radio records for your ears.

The 8’30 long video (should be shorter), has been put on youtube with a few more comments. But I forgot to rotate it…

As re-encoding the files takes forever, a 180° version will be available soon… ~~meanwhile, flip your screen~~

Now, every Paper user knows what the guys from Lunatik do : smart products and smart ad campaigns.

Results of the #Lunatikonpaper contest, organized by the Chicago-based company have been announced. And nice surprise, the “self-portrait in the night” has been selected by the jury, winning a new tool for the Paper Lab : the Lunatik touch pen ! Obviously, it will be featured and reviewed here soon.
